Wind Farm Operation

Maintenance
The Project will be designed to remain operational with minimal maintenance and supervision over
its lifetime.  Each turbine has a computer system installed to control all of its operations.  All data
and information recorded at the Project site shall be continually monitored by the operators.  Upon
notification of a problem, engineers can respond with the correct maintenance required.

Project operations activities can be broken down into the following three main categories:

  • Scheduled maintenance: This is expected to take place once a year for each turbine and the
transformer platform.  This activity involves conducting minor oil changes, replacing
    perishables etc…
  • Minor maintenance: This activity covers visits which are unscheduled but which can be
carried out by engineers visiting turbines without additional heavy vessel support.
  • Major repairs: This activity covers repairs that require additional heavy vessel support, such
as the replacement of a gearbox, blade and generator or in the case of the transformer
platform a major component.  It is expected that this activity will be rare.

It is expected that between 1-3 maintenance vessels will be at the site at any given time.

Logistics
Maintaining the Project will take place from a nearby port facility.  Given the low volume of expected
vessel movements outlined above, the choice of port facility is not anticipated to contribute to any
significant environmental impact.

The operational activities will require a full time staff of approximately 10 at the port / operations
facility and an engineering staff of approximately 20 people, excluding boat drivers.
